April

This month should have more appropriately been titled "Farm Safari." For my Dad's 50th birthday, we made the pilgramage to Idaho and we decided to drive there with our dog Arfie and spend a week. We used to joke all the time that Arfie would go nuts if we took her to the farm. She has no idea what it means to run around all day across acres and acres of grass with all sorts of interesting animals to chase. We also have an adorable niece who has us wrapped around her finger who happens to be in love with our dog and we couldn't resist her pleas to let Arfie come and play. When we arrived in Idaho, Arfie was not disappointed! She tried her hand at herding, and was very good at running around and around the sheep, but not so good at actually taking them anywhere. She ended up spending a lot of time in the house, but she didn't seem to notice because she had Macey's undivided attention around all day and she was in heaven!

Dan on the other hand got the full experience, including chores, cleaning the barn, tromping wool, hauling off deads, planting 400 trees (while sitting on a clever little death trap attatched to the back of a tractor,) shooting clay pigeons over the freshly plowed fields, and to top it off...shearing his first sheep!!! I know you all want a play by play of that one, so of course I have included that. According to my Dad, Dan's work was not shear genius and the poor sheep was the laughing stock of the feedlot. I just think the look was a little to fashion forward for the farm.
